Join small scale mushroom cultivation expert Tom Nagy of River City Mushrooms as he introduces you to the world of foraging for wild edible and medicinal mushrooms in Manitoba.
During this program, you will learn the fundamental skills necessary for confidently differentiating between and identifying species of fungi that can be found growing in a variety of habitat types throughout the province. Tom will lead a foraging walk in the trails located near The Studio to identify fungi and places it is found growing.
Numerous common and beginner-friendly edible and medicinal mushroom species will also be highlighted and analyzed in detail, including which season they appear and ideas for how to cook and preserve your harvest.
A copy of the presentation material, as well as additional resources and sources of information, will be provided to participants
Biography:
Tom Nagy is a restoration ecologist with a passion for botany and mycology, and has experience working as a field botanist, market gardener and environmental consultant. In 2018 Tom began River City Mushrooms; a small-scale mushroom farm and culture supplier based in Winnipeg that produces high quality gourmet mushrooms to restaurants and markets. Tom also delivers informative and engaging workshops and public programs in order to share the knowledge and demonstrate the techniques necessary for a new generation of mushroom cultivators, foragers, enthusiasts and advocates to flourish.
